Sony to Reissue Phil Spector's Classic Phillies Records Catalogue
Published Oct 05, 2009If you've yet to pick up Phil Spector's infamous Phillies Records catalogue, it will soon be reissued by Sony's Legacy Recordings.
Phillies Records was formed in 1961 by Spector and his friend Lester Sill, issuing 12 full-lengths in six short years.
According to Billboard, the first reissue under the new licensing deal will be Spector's classic Christmas album, A Christmas Gift for You, set to drop on October 27. The collection delivers a mostly secular batch of Christmas songs from the likes of the Ronettes, the Crystals, Darlene Love and Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans, complete with Spector's trademark "Wall of Sound" production.
Other releases will include full-length albums by the aforementioned artists, as well as material by comedian Lenny Bruce. The Phillies reissues will include digital and physical versions of the label's original albums and singles, as well as new compilations of Spector-related material. All reissues will be remastered and some will feature seven-inch and twelve-inch vinyl versions complete with the original artwork.
"The Phillies 'Wall of Sound' is embedded in our musical DNA, the craft of these recordings, the quality of the songwriting and the power of the productions have established a standard that continues to inspire artists and musicians," said Legacy senior VP and GM Adam Block in a press release.
