Published Aug 03, 2016Once again making its return, Toronto's annual Manifesto Festival is heading back to the city for its 10th year. Going down from September 9 to 18, the event will pack in a seriously impressive array of artists, as well as art exhibitions, dance showcases, community summits and more.
Among those acts playing Manifesto this year are Kaytranada, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, A Tribe Called Red, BJ the Chicago Kid, Boi-1da and Daniel Caesar, among others.
On the opening night of September 9, Boi-1da will headline a party at the Drake Hotel, complete with art installations and dance crews. Then on September 16, MNFSTO10 and Red Bull Sound Select are bringing BJ the Chicago Kid to Adelaide Hall, "along with local buzz-worthy acts."
On September 17, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Kaytranada, Daniel Caesar and more will play what's being "the largest show in Manifesto history" at TD Echo Beach. And as always, the whole thing will go out with a massive and totally free show at Yonge-Dundas Square on September 18, with A Tribe Called Red set to headline.
For the unfamiliar, a press release has this to say about Manifesto and its long history:
The 10th Annual Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture was created after a small group of local artists, community organizers, and event promoters gathered at Toronto City Hall to discuss ideas for establishing a new urban arts platform. Identifying the challenges they faced, those young leaders pooled their passions, talent and resources to create opportunities to showcase local artists and organizations. Since then, Manifesto has become a non-profit, youth-powered platform designed to put local artists on the map and unite, inspire and empower diverse communities of young people through arts and culture, year-round.
More artists, in addition to art exhibitions and community summits, will be announced in the lead-up to the event. You can learn more about the fest and tickets over here.
